Wi-Fi Communicator
It would seem that the Star Trek communicator is no longer to be Science Fiction. Vocera Communications have announced a hand frees communication system that works over Wi-Fi.
The Vocera Communications Badge is a wearable device that weighs less than two ounces and can easily be clipped to a shirt pocket. It enables instant two-way voice conversation without the need to remember a phone number or manipulate a handset. The user presses the button and says the person’s name they wish to speak too. Using voice recognition on the central server the call is then placed using an 802.11b network.
The system has so far been trialed by hospitals.
