HDTV
As High Definition Television (HDTV) is starting to take off in the USA and Japan - here in the UK we are barely starting to think about it.
The BBC has announced that it is “considering” rolling out HDTV but as one channel is extremely bandwidth-hungry; taking up the equivalent of 4-6 standard digital channels; this means that it is only really suitable for satellite or cable broadcasts.
HDTV is also not backwards compatible meaning that users switching from analogue to digital will need yet another set-top box to switch to HDTV!
