Wireless Network Part I

As I have mentioned previously I will shortly be getting broadband at home. To make the most of it I am going to set-up a wireless network. I have already ordered my Wireless ADSL Router in readiness. On Tuesday I ordered a Linksys USB Network Adapter for my computer. This arrived yesterday and I spent the evening setting it up so that I could connect my iPAQ 4150 to the internet using WiFi instead of using Bluetooth.

The install was easy but I had some problems connecting, so I turned to Google for some answers. It would appear that other people had been having the same problem – and what was needed was a Wireless LAN Driver Update. I had just updated my 4150 a few days previous with the new HP ROM update but had missed the LAN driver update.

This now enabled me to connect to my PC – but I was still unable to connect to the Internet from my PPC… After much further surfing for answers – I realised that I still needed to ActiveSync to my PC! This was all well and good – but ActiveSync would start connecting – but would drop-out part way through syncing… Again more troubleshooting… After much playing with settings – it all started to work! At last!

The results have been good – I was able to roam around the house surfing the net and chatting on MSN Messenger. As a taster of my trip to California in September I looked for some webcams of the area and found SunDiegoLive.com (Although I am not actually going to San Diego it gives me an idea of what to expect. If you guys know of a similar webcam for San Francisco, LA or Vegas please drop me a line!).

Lets hope the rest of my Wireless network isn’t as troublesome when I finally get around to setting that up!
