Internet Cameras Rule!

Over at Gadgetopia there is an article that has highlighted the issues of unsecured Internet Security Cameras.

It would appear that it is easy to find a particular brand of camera by using the inurl parameter in Google; inurl:”ViewerFrame?Mode=” or by using this search string.

Quite a few of these cameras are unsecured meaning that they are fully open to and controllable by Joe Public. One of these webcams (see below) clearly shows a shop with its telephone number printed on the window in big print and there in clear view is the shops telephone - Hmm Need I say more?

Although they can be open to misuse, they can also take you to places of interest, like the first cam that I tried from the Google search was the one below; I like this one because the street names (Washington & Clay) are familiar to me from my trip to San Francisco back in September.

I did think about opening up my streaming camera to the internet, but decided not too, because one, I don’t have the bandwidth, two my topic is not that exciting for viewers, plus also I didn’t want to direct any unwanted traffic to my home network, so for the time being it’s static pictures on Harvey-cam! Besides like any of you care anyways ;-)
I’m off to explore the world and find some more cameras….
