Remote Monitoring

Now that I have my Internet Camera up and running properly with it publishing stills to my website, I am now able to keep a remote eye on my little hound without having to use the full functionality of the streaming web application.

While I was out last night, I hit on the (obvious) idea of using my Orange C500 to view the camera stills. With a few quick taps, I was connected via GPRS to this very site, and to the Harvey-cam.

Although the video is not streaming, and I am unable to pan/tilt the camera via this method, it is still very handy to have. To reduce overheads I have now created another page on my site that just has the image on it, so with the HTML and the image itself, the download will never be more than 10k - so I’m not going to be running up huge GPRS data charges!

This is what technology is all about!
