Its that time of year again, when lots of new and exciting mobiles are being demo’d at shows like Cebit. I love keeping up to date on the new technologies coming out especially in the mobile phone department. The only problem being is that when I see it now - I want it now!

With all these exciting new features, I start thinking about which will be the one to replace my existing mobile - a Sony Ericsson K750i. This is the first time that I have had a Sony Ericsson phone and overall I have to say that I have been pretty happy with it. I love the interface - its really slick and easy to use, as are most of the features on this phone. Of course the main selling point is the camera, I don’t think there are many camera phones that can live up to the quality of the K750i’s with it’s auto-focus.

The only downside of the K750i, for me, has to be the poor synchronisation of contact & calendar information. Having previously used a Windows Mobile Smartphone, the SPV C500 really was an all singing & dancing mobile - shame that the user interface was just so crap though!

Any new mobile that is going to get my attention will have to have the image capabilities and menu system of the K750i and the power and integration that an SPV offers, plus of course some cool new features!

Up-until now the market has been very quiet with dull little cameraphones two-a-penny, but all that looks to change with the announcement of some hot new mobiles from Nokia & Sony Ericsson.

The handsets that have caught my eye on are:

Sony Ericisson K800i

Sony’s update to the K750i is now a 3rd Generation (3G) handset that comes with a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, autofocus, a Xenon flash and will be the first cameraphone to have the ‘CyberShot’ badge - as used by Sony’s range of standard digital cameras.

Nokia N92

This is going to be the next big thing since cameraphones first came into being - watching TV on your mobile. The N92 is a smartphone that has a built-in DVB-H receiver which even allows you to record shows onto your handset! With a 2.0 mega-pixel camera, stereo Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, this handset has it all!

Nokia N80

This WiFi enabled 3G smartphone has a 3.0 mega-pixel camera and is designed to interface with other digital devices in your home using UPnP. As small as a credit card, the handset weighs in at a mear 134g! A lot of power in such a small form!

Conclusion

All of these handsets have great feature sets - I think that 3G has to be the way to go for any new mobile that I purchase. A good quality camera, synchronisation tools and easy connectivity are all must haves.

I really like the idea of watching TV on your mobile, but currently there aren’t any DVB-H transmissions here in the UK, so until that kicks off there really isn’t much sense in getting the N92. The K800i with its 3.2 mega-pixel camera looks to be a great little handset, if the K750i is anything to go by then this will sell loads. But my firm favourite has to be the Nokia N80 with its 3 mega-pixel camera, proper PIM synchronisation, and for me the icing on the cake; WiFi! Could this be the ultimate handset? I have a feeling that it’s going to be one of the top sellers this year. I look forward to seeing it when it finally hits the shelves!

Go have a look at the N80 and see for yourselves….
