N95: Secondary Camera Comparison

The N95 is an all-round stunning piece of hardware - It’s a great 5 mega-pixel camera, connects you seamlessly to hotspots via WiFi, records DVD-like quality video and of course has the amazing built-in GPS.

All of these amazing features distract from one major function of this handset that is often neglected - it is in-fact a phone as well! (who knew!?) Seriously though, the N95 is a great 3G handset as well and with that is a feature that all 3G handsets have, and that is video calling.

It got me thinking that nobody has really mentioned this functionality of the N95 - so I decided to compare the results of the secondary (video calling) camera on the N95 against my N73.

Below are two videos. The one on the left is the N73, the one on the right is the N95. Both were filmed at the same time held side-by-side, in quite low light in my living room.

As you can see the results speak for themselves. The N73 on the left is very dark and blocky, whereas the N95 on the right is brighter and sharper. One thing to note is that both handsets were held at the same distance, I personally think that the N73’s framing is better as you appear a little too close in the N95. Saying that, give me the N95 any day with its better video quality!

It looks like this is another feature of the N95 that has had some improvements over previous N-Series handsets.

  1. [...] Neil, from the Nechbi blog, has done a cool post that compares the secondary camera capabilities of the N95 with that of the N73. [...]

  2. I think your cuteness just broke my monitor!

On a less important note, the secondary camera of the N73 reminds me of the main camera of the N80! Yikes.

  3. I must say, I was quite miffed at the n95 secondary camera. Whereas with the n73 I could take a fair sized self portrait with it, the n95 picture size is so tiny! I agree about the framing too. But then again, that has been my only complaint about the n95 so I shouldn’t really moan :D
