It would seem that the Nintendo Wii which was specifically designed to be ‘always on’ 24 hours a day really does have a low power consumption. According to the Sust-it website which rates power consumption of numerous household appliances the Wii is the second best performing console (after the PS One) using only 17watts.

Compare that against the XBox 360 and the mega-power draining Playstation 3 at 165 watts and 380 watts respectively which come bottom of the list!

I wonder how many people think about the electricity costs when purchasing these new generation gaming consoles, especially when they have them plugged into their hi-def flat screen TV’s?
