Back at the beginning of July I was fortunate enough to get hold of a Nokia N93i to play with for a while.. It’s taken me until now to get around to writing it up as it’s just been a busy ‘ole summer (as you can probably tell from my lack of posts recently).

Before all the torrential rain hit us here in the UK I was able to nip down to the English Riviera (Torquay to you and me) to try out the capabilities of the Nokia N93i and see how they faired against my N95.

Photography

First up was a spot of photography at Torquay’s Harbourside. The results are below with the N95 left and the N93i to the right, clicking will enlarge them.

Torquay Harbour 1 Torquay Harbour 1
OK, not much between the two pics, but I think that the N95’s colours are better and the image is somewhat sharper.

Torquay Harbour 2 Torquay Harbour 2
Dark clouds start to roll in. The N93i’s image appears to be a little ‘washed out’..

Torquay Harbour 3 Torquay Harbour 3
A contrast of dark grey clouds and the mooring at the harbourside. This time the N93i appears to be darker with the red being a lot brighter.

Again not much between the two, again the N93i is a little lighter.

Finally we have macro-mode and as you can see the N95 is the clear winner.

As you can clearly see I think that the N95 is the winner when it comes to photography producing sharper and clearer images, but the again it does have a 5mpx camera ;-)

Stay tuned for some video comparisons…

  1. some nice shots to compare with here.

In terms of detail, it is clear the 5MP N95 beats the N93i. But in terms of realism, and less oversharperning, the N93i looks better.

For the Macro shot, the N93i is manual focus, so it requires very precise distance to focused subject otherwise, subjects will not be sharp. Also N95 in the macro shot, although sharp, is way too sharp, and water coloured when looking at 100% crops.

In terms of colour, the N93i seems to be a hybrid between the N73/N95 and the Classic N93. Classic N93 of course resolves considerbly more detail than the N93i, and in some instances can trump the N95 with its 5MP noise reduced image.

  2. In my experiences taking photos with the N93i and the N95 I prefer the N93i for Macro mode photos because with N93i you can focus at a closer range than N95.

Why in the world would you compare a 5MP cameraphone vs a 3.2MP one? Not fair. Anyway my only complain about N93i is its uber weak flash! Not a perfect phone but works above par.

  4. Very effective. Thanx..
