Nokia Maps - I’ve moved 180 miles!

I love my N95 and it’s built-in GPS, and since the recent upgrade to version 1.0 it has been so much snappier at getting a fix (thanks to A-GPS).

All was hunky-dory until yesterday when I opened the app in my back garden and after a couple of seconds it had a lock. Not recognising the street that the application had targeted, I zoomed out only to my amazement that it had a fix on a location somewhere on the outskirts of Leicester:

Nokia Maps has a GPS fix of Leicester some 180 miles from where I actually was!

Quite interesting really as I live in Somerset and Leicester is some 180 miles north east!

As you can clearly see the application had a fixed lock on my alleged location. Its not like I have been anywhere near Leicester recently, the last location that Nokia Maps had when I opended the application was only 5 miles away from my house!

On closing the application and restarting, it picked up my correct location instantly…

Anybody else had an anomaly like this?

  1. Hmm, looks like all roads lead to Leicester, even the virtual ones in your pocket. Does the free maps/GPS on this phone give turn-by-turn directions or is a charge required for that? Not the voice, but just visual-only directions?
