3 Skype Phone

A week or so after getting hold of the one of the amazing Skype Phones from 3 I finally got around to uploading an un-boxing video to YouTube.

The video is the usual ceremony which then leads onto a tour around the handset and a very quick look at some of the phones features.

So far I have to say that I am hugely impressed with the handset. I really can’t believe that 3 are selling these for a meager £49! I can’t think of ANY fully featured handset on the market that is retailing for this price as a Pay As You Go Mobile. Are they giving them away?

I was pleasantly surprised with the build quality of the handset - I was to be honest, expecting something a little plasticy and tacky. Instead I was presented with a solidly constructed handset, something that even the most expensive Nokia handsets sometimes lack. My immediate impression was that it reminded me of a Sony Ericsson W810 handset in both build and size.

The 3 Skype Phone has every feature that you would want on a handset - OK it’s not an N95 - but then what is? Of course the big draw is the free Skype calls from your mobile, which I’ll have more on in a later post.

For the moment here are some un-boxing images to whet your appetite:

  10. Peter - instead of having loud music to drown out outside noise [not good for your ears ;-)] Why not invest in some headphones that block out the noise themselves? The in the ear-canal type are good for this.

  18. how do i upload videos on my skype mwp-s1

  19. I cant figure out how to upload my pictures from my skype mobile to my laptop. I have installed the disk and it appears to be a contacts feature, and when it is plugged into the data cable the mobile is not shown in my computer. Am i just being dumb? Please can you help me. (It was so easy on all my other mobiles, its just this one that is the trouble). Thanks.

  20. Sarah - Under the Settings Menu and then Connectivity, there is an option called Memory Card Transfer that will enable USB Mass Storage. This will mean that a drive will appear on your computer, so that you can then access the files you need.

This will only work if you have a memory card in your handset though. I have been unable to get my Mac to see where my photos have been stored within the phones own memory.

I don’t know how the PC Sync option works, as my trial handset did not come with any software.

Another way would be to send them via Bluetooth to your computer (provided that your computer is Bluetooth enabled). You can mark a group of images at a time and then send them across to your computer.

    I hope this helps.

  26. Kirsty - Its a great little handset. You should be able to use any Bluetooth headset with the handset, as well Bluetooth Stereo headphones as its also supports the A2DP profile.

    Hope this helps.
