Google Calendar Sync Now Available

I have been waiting for this news for a long time - Google have finally announced the Google Calendar Sync that allows you to sync your Microsoft Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar.

For years I have been using my works Outlook application to manage my work/personal contacts and calendar for syncing to my smartphone.  Since the announcement of Google Calendar, I have been looking for a way to use the multiple calendar functionality to split work/personal events but still keep them in one location.

After a quick download and filled in the settings below, My Outlook Calendar was swiftly uploaded to Google Calendar.  One thing to bare in mind is that Google Calendar sync will only sync with your primary Google Calendar.

One problem that I did encounter after my first sync was that Outlook Meeting Requests were not being synced to Google Calendar.  It appears that the sync mechanism checks the email address of the meeting attendee and will only sync it if it matches the email address of your Google Account.  Obviously if you are user@company.com and your Google address is user@gmail.com the meeting will not sync.  To sort this all you need to do is associate your work email address as a secondary email address with your Google Account.  Just go to your Google Accounts Page and edit User Info and add your work email.   Then change the Google Calendar Sync setting so that you login using your works email address rather than your GMail address.  Meeting Requests will now appear!

Download the Google Calendar Sync Installer and you will be up and running in no time!

I love it…  Now I just need to use this as my primary calendar and get this synced to my Nokia N95..  GooSync here I come..
