iPhone Music Downloads Now Available Over 3G

I never understood why you weren’t able to download music directly from iTunes on your iPhone 3G over the mobile network, you could only do it via a Wi-Fi Hotspot.  There have been quite a few occasions when I have been out and about, used Shazam to identify a track and clicked to purchase from iTunes only to be told that I need a Wi-Fi Network. Frustrating.

There have been many examples of mobile network providers who have allowed you to download tracks to your handset, and with Nokia adding the Nokia Music Store last year, it seemed daft that the iPhone was so restricted.

We had a hint recently that things were changing as Apple allowed downloading of Podcasts over-the-air on your iPhone at the end of last year.

Now today, the news that we have all been waiting for, the iTunes Store on your iPhone has been set free - you can now download music wherever you are!  and the best thing of all - they are all now DRM-free!

On iPhone, you can access the iTunes Music Store over both cellular and Wi-Fi networks — and buy high-quality, DRM-free iTunes Plus songs. So no matter where you are, you can browse New Releases, What’s Hot, and Genres. Take a look at Top Songs and Top Albums. Or find exactly what you’re looking for with a quick search. Play a 30-second preview of any song, then tap once to buy it.

There is no iPhone update required - just click the iTunes button on your iPhone when you are out and about - and get downloading!
