What’s in the Box?:

Nothing in the box as this is a download only program. As usual I’m using my iPod Nano 4th with Shaun of the Dead DVD for this little review.

Installation, Performance and Comparison:

The interface is pretty bare really, there’s no instructions on the screen like the others I’ve looked at. Not much instructions is really needed though, it’s fairly easy to use.

1

To start with you hit the little icon in the bottom left corner that looks like a DVD inside of an envelope, that will allow you to open your movie.

2

What’s nice about this program is that it automatically loads the movie, you won’t have to go through and select anything.

3

Once you have your movie loaded hit the ‘Setting’ button to open a new window with all the audio and video settings in it. Another great thing about this program is that it will allow you to change aspect ratios as well, a few of the others would not let me do that.

4

Once you’re settings are all ready just hit ‘Play’ to start the ripping and conversion process, you’ll see the movie playing in the small window while it’s working.

5

I checked the CPU Usage and found that Extra DVD Ripper does not utilize a quad core CPU but it should utilize a dual core processor just fine.

6

It seemed everything was working just fine until about five minutes into the process then up popped the copy protection stuff… I tried several times and the same thing happened each time.

7

So obviously the program does not like the copy protection, but the others I’ve used had no problems at all with it, so I won’t be able to finish this review obviously…

What’s the point of it when it won’t rip the DVDs that you want to?

Conclusion:

Well that was a short review wasn’t it? I’m very disappointed with this software, it just didn’t work as it was supposed to. The others had no problems at all ripping Shaun of the Dead for my testing of the programs, but this one just failed totally.

Oh well, this is one not to buy I guess…

Pros:

+Fairly easy to use

+Many options to configure

Cons:

-Doesn’t work well at all

-Expensive

This software is okay. But I much prefer FreeStar Free DVD Ripper. It has more sets.
