It’s a year ago today that I got myself a Nokia N95.
I thought it would be kinda fun just to look back over the last year and see if I made the right decision..
As soon as the phone hit the shops I snapped one up knowing that I was one of the first people to get their hands on this ground-breaking handset from Nokia in 2007.
The N95 was the ultimate gadget-lovers mobile phone touting a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, Integrated GPS, DVD-like video recording, TV-Out, Bluetooth, WiFi and was one of the first phones to have HSDPA (3.5G). There was nothing else like it.
Here it is my shiny new Nokia N95. Apparently at the time, the Graphite Grey was not a common site.

The first thing to notice about the N95 is the stunning image quality with it’s 5 mega-pixel camera:
Not only were normal photographs great, the macro mode was just amazing:
The DVD-like video quality of the N95 wasn’t too bad either:

There have also been some great bits of software released over the last year that have changed the way that people use their handets:
- Jaiku Mobile – a live phonebook that displays the activity streams, availability, and location of your Jaiku contacts right in your phone contact list.
- Google Maps – Googles own mobile mapping
- QIK & Flixwaggon - Stream live video to the internet
- JoikuSpot – turns your phone into a WiFi hot spot.
- Nokia Maps 2.0 - A revamp of the GPS mapping tool that comes with the N95.
- and of course the launch of Nokia N-Gage announced only yesterday.
Normally I’m itching to change my mobile after about 6 months of use, as I see something better has come along. It’s only just dawned on me writing this that this is the first time that I have actually had the same mobile for a year without any desire to change. The N95 does so much and more, as new applications are always coming out… Do I really need anything else?
Of course we all know that the N95 has matured into the N95 8GB, a handset that I really did enjoy when I had the opportunity to test one last year and the recently announced N96 is to come later in the year, which I suspect if anything will be my next handset.
Has it been worth while and would I recommend the N95? The answer has to be “Hell yeah!”.

Great review. Come to think of it, a lot of new phones coming out in competition with N95 have low MP.
With the features of N95, it could compete for 3 years. I guess the downside of this phone is its size, because phones now-a-days are getting smaller.
