One thing the internet has no shortage of is adult related material… Apple though has tried to keep it off of their devices, I guess they think us adults can’t handle it, I think we should be allowed to make the decision for ourselves, but Mr. Jobs doesn’t think we’re responsible enough apparently, either that or he’s a prude..
Despite Steve Jobs’ email earlier this week, porn has been available on the company’s new flagship product since the first day of launch. RocketTube, a gay adult site, announced it was iPad ready before the product even had a chance to hit store shelves.
In order to showcase the capabilities of its new iPad, Apple, Inc. is touting a list of high profile websites, including NewYorkTimes.com, Vimeo.com, CNN.com, and the White House, that are currently "iPad ready." These sites employ HTML 5, CSS 3, and JavaScript to deliver a rich media experience to iPad users instead of relying on Adobe’s Flash technology, which Apple famously does not support on the mobile version of its Safari web browser. Users who visit these sites are automatically served the "magical," flash-free version for a seamless viewing experience.
"There are no adult tube sites listed on Apple’s list," notes RocketTube spokesperson Sha Prewitt, "but if there were, we believe RocketTube would stand alone as the first and only fully iPad-compatible tube site online."
As soon as the new iPad was available, RocketTube began tweaking its code to ensure compatibility with what some have called the greatest porn delivery device ever created. The testing phase was completed this week and now that the new code has gone live, iPad users automatically get a version of the site that uses HTML 5, instead of Adobe Flash, to deliver streaming video.
"There are several adult tubes that claim to offer mobile versions, but in reality they simply redirect mobile users to co-branded or third party sites that charge for access," says Prewitt. "We’ve seen mobile traffic grow consistently over the past year, and when the iPad was announced we knew the time had come to really get in the game. I’ve heard estimates that there may be upwards of 100 million users on the iPhone and iPad platforms alone by the end of 2010, which is an astonishing number, but for us, the initial success of the iPad is especially exciting," he said.
Prewitt expects that other tube sites will eventually make the changes necessary to serve this potentially huge audience, but for now he’s excited that RocketTube appears to be the only tube site, straight or gay, that’s compatible with the new device. "Our office is filled with Apple fanboys, but we hope that the success of the iPad spurs other manufacturers to produce new and compelling devices," he said. "Anything that makes viewing our product, and the products of our sponsors and advertisers, more portable and convenient is certainly a welcome development," he said.

Don’t buy the iPad, you have a choice. Apple hasn’t taken your choice away. Its just that you don’t want to make that choice and want to transfer that lack of courage to others.
Put your money where your mouth is and walk away from Apple.
I get that Jobs doesn’t want to be in the biz of selling porn apps for his devices but I was surprised at his comments last week. He has to realize that porn will drive sales of the iPad and I can’t imagine he’s personally that offended by it. Its a good PR stance I guess, but it does feed into the “Apple as Big Brother” meme floating around.
Anyway, good for RocketTube.com for making their stuff work on the device. Gay porn isn’t my cup of tea, but I like seeing scrappy little companies stay one step ahead of the morality police.
