The update that everybody has been waiting for – the amazing JoikuSport has had a minor update (to 1.2) that now allows you to surf securely using WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol). This now means that you can safely browse the internet and access your emails etc without the worry of your connection being snooped on.
If you have never heard of JoikuSpot, its an application for Wifi enabled S60 3rd Generation handsets. It basically allows you to use your mobile as a hotspot to connect a laptop or other device to, so that you can use your mobiles 3G connection for internet access.
It looks like the product is starting to get serious now as this update allows you to use the product for 90 days before asking you to purchase it.
Currently you can only access HTTP & HTTPS traffic (standard and secure pages) But they are busy beavering away on the full product that will allow full NAT (Network Address Translation) that will allow most protocols… I can’t wait…
Release notes for JoikuSpot Light Beta 1.2:
-Encryption support with WEP including automatic 128bit key generator
-Battery threshold shutting down the client when battery level is too low (adjustable)
-Default Access point can be set
-Support for secure SSH tunnels with Putty
