N95 Firmware Update Gets Demand Paging

The original Nokia N95 has just gotten itself a nice little firmware update that adds some great functionality to this first generation N95 handset.

One of the major improvements in this (v20.0.015) release is that it now features Demand Paging a technology that allows the handset to better manage its memory, allowing more applications to be run at once, and hopefully will eliminate those dreaded ‘Out of Memory’ errors that we all hate.

This feature is already in the new N95 8GB that I reviewed recently – It really does make such a different to the overall performance of the handset – and made it hard for me to switch back to my original N95 afterwards.

Other tweaks and improvements are to the camera, the addition of new Nokia Search, NGage and Nokia Music Store.

Get your N95 updated now and let me know what you think!

    Ly2,

I’ve seen this as well… I don’t remember the specifics, but you likely have some sis files on your removable memory card. You’ll want to remove your memory card, then try rebooting. If you don’t see the problem, then indeed you have some files on your card which activate this ‘feature’.

I apologize for not remembering exactly why this happens, but once you’ve pulled your card, mount it on your pc/mac and look for sis files. If I remember correctly, they’ll be in a special directory there. Copy or remove them.

    Good luck.
