Review of Scosche flipSYNC – Micro & Mini USB 2.0 Charge and Sync Cable

Today I’ve got a brief review for you of a rather simple but yet very useful product from Scosche called the flipSYNC.  I don’t know about you but I’m always looking for a USB cable, even though I’ve got many of them I never seem to be able to find one when I need it. The flipSYNC offer both mini and micro style UBS connection with a standard USB connector on the other end so you always have both of the popular connections ready when you need them. It’s all packaged in a very small handy casing that you can clip right on your keychain to take with it with you.

What’ in the Box?

The Scosche flipSYNC comes in a rather large box when compared to the actual product.

Inside you’ll only find the flipSYNC and the user manual and warranty card.

flip3

The flipSYNC is small measuring only about two inches high and less than one inch wide.

flip4

On the top half you’ll find hidden the regular USB connection:

On the bottom is two connections connected into each other, both mini-USB and micro-USB

Here’s a close up of the connectors and how they fit together.

Usage:

To use it you’ll have to open it up of course:

To test I hooked up my AT&T Tilt and the Samsung Captivate:

So that’s it really.. just hook it up via USB and you’re set. You can then charge and sync your devices, and yes it appears you can do two at the same time.

Of course what makes it special is the fact that it’s small and portable, you can just attach it to your keychain and take it with you so you always have a connection when you need it most.

The price is $19.99 and I guess that’s not bad really for what it is and what it does.  The cables for the connections are thin, but they seem durable.

Conclusion:

The flipSYNC is a product that I found very useful, the fact that is has both popular USB style connections on it makes it that much more valuable and useful. With the flipSYNC you’ll never have to hunt for the right cable again, just attach it to your keychain and you’ll always have the correct connection for your needs.

PROS CONS
+Simple and easy to use
+Seems durable
+Take two types of connections with you
-None really

Does yours actually work? Although mine charges a variety of micro and mini usb devices just fine, it can’t maintain a data connection. That means tethering, transferring of files, etc fails or ends up corrupted. The usb male plug on the Flipsync is so difficult to insert that I worry it might break my usb ports on my laptop, and I can see it noticeably flex the pcb connector inside the female port each time I try to put it in.. It’s a POS and I want my $20 back.
