What’s in the Box?:
The Fitted iPad Case comes in the familiar Speck clear plastic rectangular package. The case can be seen through the clear front package window and on the back is a product description in six different languages.
It measures 0.71″ in depth, 7.7″ in width, 9.79″ in height and weighs 9.6 oz. The case comes in five fabric styles which include Houndstooth Gray, Fadeaway Gray/Black/Green, Fadeaway Gray/Black/Pink, ClassicPlaid Pink & Gray, Black & White Plaid. Our review sample is the Fadeaway Gray/Black/Green style case.
The case is comprised of two halves – the hard shell case that rests on the back of the iPad and a front bezel ring that locks the iPad within the case. Speck designed the Fitted iPod case with openings for all buttons, controls, sensors and connectors.
Aesthetically the Fitted iPad Case is a nice-looking accessory. The front and sides have a rubbery texture for improved grip ability, while the back is protected by hard plastic and a fashionable cloth material. The Speck logo is found on the back of the case and on the inner portion of the back half.
Usage:
Installation involves placing the iPad into the back portion of the case and the placing the front half on top. Make sure to check the case alignment before snapping the two pieces together then start from one corner to firmly press the halves together and work your way around until the two pieces are firmly seated together on all sides. To release the iPad start at the button cut out on the side and gently pull the top half from the bottom.
The Fitted iPad Case stays in place via clips on the two pieces. One concern is that if these clips break then the iPad is not going to be securely locked into the case. In fact my review sample had a little crack on one of its clips thus preventing the case from fully closing around the iPad.
All connectors are easily accessible including the dock connector and the headphone jack.
The case is slightly thicker than the Speck CandyShell model due to the Fitted’s front bezel. Although the front screen is not directly protected the elevated bezel does keep it from direct surface contact if the iPad is placed face down.
The Fitted iPad Case does not include any type of stand capability and can not be used with a dock when the iPad is housed within.
Conclusion:
Speck has once again has created a well made Apple peripheral. The case is similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch versions so if you’re familiar with those cases then this one is basically a larger version of those models.
Although I did like the overall design of the Fitted iPad Case my main concern involves the clips that lock the two halves together. Damage to any of these clips make the closure of the case around the iPad more tenuous. Otherwise I think it is a nice looking case and the various designs should appeal to both men and women looking to personalize their iPad.
